Who is Tommy Wonder?
A magician with passion.
Tommy Wonder is a magician with passion, who started magic at the age of 10. After
high-school he studied for 3 years at the "Academie voor Podiumvorming" in The
Hague where he learned acting, dancing and singing. Then he worked for 2 years with the
theatre company "De Haagsche Comedie" where his theatre experience was enlarged.
After winning a national talent contest which was televised in The Netherlands in 1977,
his career really took off. At first specializing in table-magic, with which he won a
second prize at the World Championships of Magic in 1979.
Soon magicians all over the world became interested in his work, and many invitations
to perform at magical conventions started coming in up until today.
The largest trade magazine "MAGIC", elected Tommy Wonder as one of the very
few European magicians who had the most influence on American magic in the last century.
International success with his stage-act.
Around 1987 Tommy Wonder developed a stage-act for
mediaeval parties, which was to become an international attraction later on. This act,
characterized by simplicity of line, clearly demonstrates the theatrical background of Tommy
Wonder.
Glitter and glamour, all too often used to compensate a
lack of content, is not what you will find here. Instead it is the acting, the emotions,
the music, the charm and of course the more than excellent tricks which make this act one
of the best in the world.
This act has been booked in Las Vegas and many
other top places in the world, and won its creator the second prize at the World
Championship of Magic in 1988 and more recently in 1999 the "Best Sleight of
Hand Award" at the World Magic Awards in Los Angeles, and was televised by Fox Family
Channel.
Tommy
Wonder develops everything himself.
Tommy Wonder develops all his repertoire himself,
because he believes that is the only way a performer can express his personality and his
imagination. Because of the great originality which is an automatic result of such an
approach, he has built up a reputation amongst his colleagues which is without equal. His
two volume book "The Books of Wonder", published in 1996 in the USA, are
generally accepted in the magic world as two of the best magic books ever written.
The only Dutch
performer...
In 1998 he received the "Performer Fellowship Award" of the "Academy of
Magical Arts" in Hollywood, the "Oscar" of the magic world. Tommy Wonder is
the only living Dutch performer who has received this prestigious award.
